The Icom IC-PW2 is an output stage for short wave + 6m, built with very powerful 65V LDMOS transistors.
This design is the basis for a very clean broadcast signal. The built-in power supply requires a single-phase supply voltage of 180-260 VAC.
The included control unit with a color 4.3" touch panel (LCD) can either be mounted on the front of the PA or controlled remotely via a cable.
IC-PW2 offers 6 switchable antenna outputs whose respective function (antenna) can be defined by the user. The LC display then shows a matching antenna symbol, which avoids misunderstandings. The built-in automatic antenna tuner can adjust a less than optimal antenna within certain limits. This tuner can also be used without a PA, i.e. only with the transceiver's drive power.
When using the IC-7610, the IC-PW2 power amplifier offers digital "pre-distortion". Here the output signal is measured and compared with the transceiver's drive signal. If distortion occurs, the transceiver is controlled by the PA so that the output signal has the best possible spectral purity.
With the Icom transceivers IC-7851 and IC-7610, SO2R operation is also possible. This means that the PA prevents both transmitters from transmitting at the same time through a "Tx Lockout" - as required by the competition rules. Alternatively, the two inputs can be used to monitor two bands simultaneously using the radio's dual monitor feature.
Also new are two connections for an external bandpass filter. A multi-band filter from another manufacturer can be connected here; switching takes place automatically via the tape data outputs. As you would expect from a device of this power class, the IC-PW2 is equipped with various protection circuits: too high SWR, over temperature, too high current, etc.
The Icom IC-PW2 weighs approx. 21 kg, the outer dimensions are 425 x 149 x 445 mm.
